I really do. But I don't want to work for her anymore. Well, actually, what I don't want to do is work in MT anymore.
In the May 19, 2008 Business Week, there was a small feature called "The Truth About Tech Startups." It resonated with me on a couple of levels.
1. It's not all about the wunderkinder and I don't feel quite as inadequate as I did before.
"The average age of those who started tech companies from 1995 to 2005 was an image-shattering 39, with those 50 or older twice as common as those 25 or younger."
2. Susan Berfield was quoted as saying, "To be successful, you have to have real-world experience and motivation. And the greatest motivation is that you're tired of working for other people."
I'm starting over in October. Again.
Now, I have a new side project and while that feeds (some of) my creative needs, I still need to pay the mortgage. I can't do that in the arts and I certainly don't want to do it with MT anymore.
Jeanne Johnston (aka Haggis) has gone the tumor registry route and she's doing fabulously well. You can see her blog on Advance to get details and follow her progress.
I am going the scoping route. Once Tax Deduction #1 gets into kindergarten and Tax Deduction #2 is settled into a routine that does not include TD#1 screeching at him, and once I get my artistic September deadlines out of the way, I'm hitting the books.
Again.
Now I'm just glad to know we MTs are not the only ones starting over for the 67th time at 40, and that that whiz kid is largely a myth.
Remind me again why I didn't just go to law school when I had the chance?
